Crowns are sometimes referred to as ‘caps' since they sit over a natural tooth. They restore the shape and function of a tooth that is badly broken down and can strengthen a tooth weakened by large fillings or root canal treatment. Crowns are made by highly skilled laboratory technical staff and are made to fit and look like natural teeth by using porcelain bonded to an underlying metal structure or in some cases they can be constructed from gold.

To make a crown or crowns for teeth, two appointments are required, the initial appointment involves preparation of the tooth/teeth, the taking of impressions and shade than the placing of a temporarily restoration. The second visit is scheduled two weeks later, at which point the crown is fitted. The various types of crowns and options available can be discussed and tailored to suit each individual.
